Arizona Beef Council and FFA Partnership Continues to Cultivate Beef Advocates

The Arizona Beef Council, in collaboration with Arizona FFA, recently concluded its third annual Masters of Beef Advocacy competition, focusing on the topic of “Cattle in Feed Yards.” This year's program attracted dedicated FFA members who showcased their knowledge and communication skills while advocating for the beef industry.

The competition, modeled after the national Masters of Beef Advocacy training program, challenges students to develop comprehensive lesson plans, deliver presentations to live audiences, and compose reflective essays on the importance of beef advocacy. This three-pronged approach helps develop the next generation of articulate and informed agricultural communicators.

"This program provides students with real-world experience in communicating complex agricultural concepts to diverse audiences," said Arie Van Hofwegen, chairman of the Arizona Beef Council. "The skills they develop through this competition will serve them well regardless of their future career paths."

This year's winners demonstrated exceptional understanding of feed yard operations and remarkable communication abilities:
First Place: Andres Perez from Douglas FFA
Second Place: Caden Metzger from Basha FFA
Third Place: Kathleen Henderson from Basha FFA

The top three finishers received cash prizes and will participate an exclusive one-on-one tour with beef farmers and ranchers, providing invaluable networking opportunities and first-hand industry experience.

The Arizona Cattle Feeders Association and the Arizona Farm and Ranch Group continue to serve as key sponsors, demonstrating the industry's commitment to fostering agricultural education and advocacy skills among youth.
"The support from our sponsors enables us to offer meaningful rewards to these talented students," said Tiffany Selchow, ABC staff. "The personalized ranch tours provide a rare opportunity for winners to connect directly with industry professionals and gain deeper insights into beef production practices."
Since its inception three years ago, the program has grown in both participation and impact, establishing itself as a valuable component of agricultural education in Arizona. The competition not only strengthens students' understanding of beef production but also enhances their ability to effectively communicate industry practices and benefits to the general public.

The Arizona Beef Council looks forward to continuing this partnership with Arizona FFA and expanding the program's reach in coming years, further strengthening the connection between agricultural education and industry advocacy.
